Keeping Your Patio Mold Free, Part I

Summer is the time for household parties and loads of fun.  This is the time when families invite friends over for weekend barbeques.  But if the climate is hot and humidity is high throughout the year, it leads to the formation of mold and mildew.  Things like wooden mailboxes, fences, patio umbrellas and even patio furniture can become infected by mold.  Mold grows in almost all places and even inside the house.  Molds are harmful and can even affect the lungs.

Some molds are harmless where as some are very harmful.  How the mold affects a person depends on each person’s individual health conditions.  Some people will show no reactions at all while some others will react strongly to molds.  Mold spores are airborne, which if you breathe in can get inside the body and affect the lungs.

The patio being an out door place has more reasons to accumulate mold easily when compared to other areas in the house.  Mold requires three things to grow and flourish.  They are moisture, air and food.  This can be found anywhere in the house, especially in the patios.  Mold grows on the floor of the patios because there is more moisture there.  The floor will definitely have more moisture, especially if the patio is near a swimming pool.
