Where Should You Build a Sun Room?
If you’re building a home and you want to include a sun room in your plans, the location should be considered carefully to get the desired results from your sun room. So, will it face north, south, east or west?
If you build your sunroom on the north side of your home, you can have natural light, but you won’t get much direct sunlight. This room won’t be as warm in the winter as other locations where it would get the warm morning or afternoon rays of the sun. But it can still be a comfortable room with a lot of natural light.
On the south side, expect plenty of warmth during sunny winter days. You won’t experience heavy rays of the sun during the summer, so it can be a light enjoyable room in summer months without overheating.
A sunroom facing east will catch the sunshine early in the mornings – great for enjoying a cup of coffee or tea before work, and great for growing beautiful plants indoors.
Of course, if your sun room faces west, you’re going to get the afternoon sunshine. This is a great option if the afternoon sun is what you enjoy most. However, you will definitely need to add shades of some sort to help keep down the cost of cooling in the summer and to keep furniture from fading as the afternoon sun rays are the strongest.
A sunroom can become one of the most enjoyable rooms in your home. Just be sure to consider the location so you will get the most enjoyment from it.
