You will find staunch believers in what type of grill makes the best tasting foods. You have the charcoal lovers and the gas lovers. Regardless of how the heat is generated, most folks love grilling out. Finding the perfect grill for your patio doesn’t have to be difficult and there are lots of choices.

Determine The Best Type of Grill for You

There are all types of styles and designs for outdoor grills. Determine what type of heat source you prefer for your food. If gas is your choice, decide if you want propane gas or have a natural gas line installed. You can even have an outdoor electric grill if you don’t want to worry about gas or charcoal.

Choose the Right Size Grill To Fit Your Needs

Once you’ve determined the type you think will work best for you, all you have to do is pick the grill that’s the right size for your patio and adequate for the number of people you normally serve. You don’t need a grill to accommodate cooking for 25 people when you most often grill just for your family and smaller groups.

Location is Important for Safety

Be sure to position the grill in a safe location and away from the house. Also take into consideration a patio covering if you have one. Smoke emanating from the grill can turn the covering black, so it’s best to place your grill in an uncovered area when in use. Be sure to watch out for low-hanging tree limbs that could catch fire as well.

Put that fry daddy back in the cabinet and purchase a patio grill. It will be a healthier choice for you and a fun activity for the family and friends.

DirectBuy carries a great selection of grills and outdoor cooking accessories at great prices. You’ll find savings up to 50% off what you’d pay retail on top brand-name grilling equipment.

Whether you’re grilling with charcoal or a gas grill, there are safety measures you should take and things you should remember to protect yourself and your family. Check out these safety tips from the National Fire Prevention Association.

Outdoor grilling is a national pastime, especially during holidays like the fourth of July. Everyone enjoys gathering outdoors to grill their favorite holiday fare, but every year during peak grilling seasons, many happy events take a wrong turn and end in injury, death and property damage.

Whether you’re grilling with charcoal or a gas grill, there are safety measures you should take and things you should remember to protect yourself and your family.

Check out these safety tips from the National Fire Prevention Association:

Gas Grills

1. Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
2. The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
3. Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
4. Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
5. Never leave your grill unattended.

Charcoal grills

1. There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the charcoal using newspaper as a fuel.
2. If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.
3. Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources.
4. There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use.
5. When you finish grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing them in a metal container.

Propane grills

Check the gas tank hose for leaks before using it for the first time each year by applying a light soap and water solution to the hose. A propane leak will release bubbles. If your grill has a gas leak, by smell or the soapy bubble test, and there is no flame, turn off the gas tank and grill. If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again. If the leak does not stop, call the fire department. If you smell gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call the fire department. Do not move the grill.

Spring is approaching, and it’s time to begin thinking of enjoying more time outdoors and inviting your friends over for a barbecue. The goal is to have fun, so make sure you follow a few safety tips so fun is all you will experience.

When you’re ready to grill, make sure your grill is placed at a safe distance from your home, wooden porch or deck railing, low-hanging branches, flammable liquids, and other combustible materials. Some experts recommend at least 8 to10 feet of distance from anything susceptible to the heat of your grill.

If you have a charcoal grill, one of the most imperative safety measures you can take is to make certain your coals are completely out before you toss them. Just leave them alone – at least overnight to make sure. Sometimes a charcoal briquette can remain active even overnight if it’s buried in the middle of the ashes.

So even though you may think your coals have gone completely out, remember just one spark can cause a fire. If you need to get rid of the coals, remove them from the hot grill and use cold water to make sure all embers are completely cooled.

If you have a gas grill, you should take the time to make sure there are no leaks in the gas lines – before you light up the grill. You can use a product especially made to test for leaks or you can use dishwashing liquid to see whether air bubbles occur where the gas lines are connected.

Play it safe and take just a little extra care and precaution to make sure everyone has fun on the patio and no one is injured from carelessness.

For everything you need for your outdoor areas, you’ll find brand-name products from DirectBuy – patio furniture, outdoor accessories, grills, outdoor kitchens and more – all at 50% off retail prices.
